11.111 cars in the 8Coupe archives

18 months after passing the 10k cars milestone we are pleased to announce that the 8Coupe team has again added more than one thousand new 8ers to the archive which on this 11-11 coincidentally holds data for 11.111 8-series cars.

The 8Coupe archive has seen a significant increase in size by and large due to larger sized pictures taken all over the globe and now exceeds 50GB of data. Within the archive we now store 320.000 files of which 200.000 depict 8-series cars and more than 37.000 PDF files of sales ads and supplementing information.

...it appears that following the 25th anniversary in 2014 car collectors have started to smile at the 8-series and prices are finally on the way up.

10,000 8-series cars in the 8Coupe.com archives

The 8Coupe archival team is proud to announce having reached another milestone.

As of this month we are in the 5 digit range and now hold data for more than 10,000 8-series cars in the 8Coupe archives.

Within 38GB of E31 related data we now store 280,000 files of which 170,000 are pictures and roughly 33,000 PDF files of advertised 8-series cars.

One third of the worldwide production (10207 cars) lies ahead, due in Summer this year.

8,888 8ers in the 8Coupe archive... and more!

A very busy year of the 8Coupe team has led to another milestone - more than 9,000 cars were in the archives at the end of May 2013 and en route in the same month we also passed the "magic" 8er number of 8,888 cars.

We are only a few cars shy of 30% (9187 cars) of the entire worldwide production and already a wide margin beyond the past ambitious long term target of 25% (7655 cars) reached in February 2012.

The size of the entire 8Coupe archive has grown to 33 GB data containing near 240.000 files of which 145.000 are car pictures and almost 29.000 are PDF documents relating to specific cars.

Without the initial idea to tackle a daunting task: cataloging all 30,621 8er build sheets and starting the 8Coupe registry & archive, our knowledge about the 8er in general and seen from many specific angles would be much smaller.

2000 cars & owners registered

Nearly ten years after the first steps into becoming the worldwide 8er registry and archive were made, we have received the personal registration of the 2000th 8-series car today. To date 8er owners from 66 countries have registered their car with 8Coupe.com.

Oct 1, 2011 - half the 8-series has turned 20

Brian Eales named new E31 Registry Contact for USA

Effective immediately Brian Eales will become the new USA E31 Registry Agent. Mr. Eales is assuming the USA responsibility from Jud Spencer, who is retiring after 8 years of service to the global BMW 8 Series community.

Mr. Eales is an active Kansas member of the 8 series scene since purchasing his BMW 840CiA 06/2001 and the overall BMW community since the late 1990’s. His positive energy for the E31 led to his current duties as a co-moderator for the E31 Forum at Bimmerforums.net. Mr. Eales commands well known 8er knowledge and ongoing outreach to existing and potential 8er owners.

Effective August 8, 2010, Reinhard Wolf will become the new Global E31 Registry Agent. Mr. Wolf is assuming this responsibility from Jud Spencer, who is retiring after 8 years of service to the global BMW 8 Series community.

Catalog Update: 1992 850i 6spd (NA)

An accounting of the highly sought-after BMW M70 850Ci 6spd manuals was recently completed for the 1992 model year. Previously the 1993 850Ci 6spd model year was completed (see news). The North American 850i/Ci 6spd was produced for the 1991-1993 model years, including one special-ordered 1994 model for the Canadian market, for a total of 847 cars.

BMW carried over the 1991 model year to the 1992 model year relatively unchanged until late 08/1991 production. For the annual engineering change, BMW had several engineering changes implemented based on the 18 months of warranty data and the movement of the seat heating switches from seat side to the console surrounding the gearshift. BMW cut production for 1992 model year over 50% from 1991 model year production because there were too much unsold 8er's on dealer lots and the effects of the Persian Gulf War and the recession..

An accounting of the highly sought-after BMW M70 850Ci 6spd manuals was recently completed for the 1993 model year. The North American 850i/Ci 6spd was produced for the 1991-1993 model years, including one special-ordered 1994 model for the Canadian market, for a total of 847 cars.

BMW introduced many upgrades and changed the model name from BMW 850i to BMW 850Ci, however, BMW drastically cut production of the 6spd to only 106 6spd cars for the 1993 model year.

8er Options Listing Online

Turkey E31 Owner Joins Registry Team

As the proud owner of a 1990 M70 850iA and a 1996 M73 850CiA Individual, Mr. Aloglu brings his lifelong passion to the E31 Registry by sharing a number of interesting E31's, including a long-lost Alpina B12 5.0 and reportedly the "last" delivered 850CSi by a BMW dealer in Turkey in 1997.

The First Factory 8er

CB00000's 20th Anniversary is coming July 28, 2009.

BMW AG's first production 8er occurred on July 28, 1989, with chassis CB00000. It rolled off the Dingolfing, Bavaria factory assembly line with little fanfare because it was a test run. Although there were other BMW 850 prototypes produced prior to July, 1989, this particular vehicle was the very first factory revenue 8er vehicle.

Dinan 8 TT/6L Registry Launch

Thanks to growing 8er community efforts, the E31 Registry again increased the number of collected information on specific 8er's worldwide since August 2002 to 4,221 or 13.8% of all 30,621 8er's produced. This information includes photos, advertisements, service history, and owner provided data.

Plans are now in place to launch the Dinan Twin Turbo (TT) Registry during the month of May 2009.
